Meet our board
Many good ideas start from inside one persons head, but in order to make them a reality it requires a team of knowledge, skills, experience and passion for a shared vision. In the Summer we put a call out for people who were passionate about our good food vision to join us and form a board to help us develop and deliver our strategy and ensure effective, transparent governance of Shoots Market. As a Community Interest Company we will share our impact on people, profit and the planet. We are pleased to share with you our board: Louise Shute - Founder
Louise has worked as a programme manager in the food, housing, community and further education sectors. Her experience includes business improvement, customer experience and innovation. In her most recent role for Food for Life and Food Sense Wales, she has worked with people across the food system in Wales to increase people of all ages and backgrounds growing, cooking and sharing good food. Louise founded Shoots Market to make local, healthy sustainable food the norm and ensure the food system is affordable and accessible.
Matt joined the Chartered Institute of Housing, as it’s National Director in Wales, in 2017. He took up the role armed with a breadth of knowledge of the Welsh policy landscape following 17 years working as a senior communicator at the heart of Welsh civic and political life.
A journalist by trade, Matt worked as a political correspondent for the South Wales Evening Post and ITV Wales for more than 10 years, covering the political beat in Cardiff Bay, Westminster and Brussels. In 2009 he joined the National Assembly for Wales (now Welsh parliament) as its Head of News , where he transformed the Welsh Parliament’s media operation into the modern multi-platform, multi-media operation that you see today. Matt has also been a voluntary board member of Newydd Housing since 2013. He is also chair of the organisation’s Audit & Risk Committee and a member of its Governance Committee.
Kate has worked in Human Resource for the last 8 years and is currently Head of People at S.A Brain. Prior to joining Brains Kate worked within retail holding senior operational and HR management roles.
Kate believes that everyone should have access to fresh healthy affordable food. Kate sees working with Shoots Market as a great way to use her skills to give back and support the community. Kate very strongly believes that organisations should reflect the communities they serve and there should be fairness at all times in the employment cycle.
Wayne has worked in the hospitality sector for 24 years and in the third sector for 16 years, specifically working with adults with learning disabilities. In that time he has ran nightclubs, pubs, coffee shops and set up four social enterprises. In his current role as Development Manager for a Welsh charity he develops new projects, writes funding bids and manages partnerships with external stakeholders. He spends his spare time with his 10 year old son, making up stories, building cardboard robots and being his boxing sparring partner (punch bag) on a Saturday. The reasons he joined the board of Shoots Market was enthusiasm for making good, local food available to everyone. He shares the same ethos of trying to build better communities from the ground up and helping support people to make the most of what they have through investing in themselves and their families and supporting the areas they live in.
In addition to our board, we are fortunate to have the support of several programmes including Feeding the City (https://kingscross.impacthub.net/ftc-start-up/) and Social Business Wales. Several people have also volunteered their time to mentor us in our journey including HISBE and the Bank of America. Not forgetting very patient family and friends! We are currently in the process of securing our first location and hoping to share news of this in the New Year.
